Succeed with Guided meditation, It is Easier and Funner than non Guided Meditation
By Deepika Avanti
Meditation is about living with awareness in your body noticing body sensations, emotions, thoughts and spiritual connections in the present moment and not being in the mind in the past or future.
I spent over thirty years doing non guided meditations and hating it. Why would anyone go through this misery?
I had heard meditation was the key to a better life. Then I heard Ram Dass, a teacher and meditation pro, tell his story of how his life totally changed into bliss doing a month of meditation watching his belly button rise and fall all day long. This struck a chord in my heart.
The non guided meditations I did were: TM meditation repeating a two word mantra for an hour a day for years from age eighteen on; Insight ten day meditation retreats ( I thought I would die watching my breathe, physical sensations, emotions, and thoughts 18 hours a day); Naropa University Shambala meditation an hour a day for 4 years with my eyes open looking at a spot on the carpet and watching my body sensations, emotions, and thoughts and a combination of all of them plus walking meditation.
Then guided meditation happened to me. I started combining a Ute Indian vision quest technique that I lead groups to do for years with being creative. This guided meditation is in my eBook, Living the Magic of Meditation, How to Meditate. In this guided meditation, you become one with anything that you see and describe yourself as this object, such as I am the sky, open, spacious, blue, holding everything, expanding to infinity, while feeling how this felt inside my body.
Then the guided meditation became a closed eyes meditation using a focus that came to mind, such as love and saying, I am love, then feeling love in my heart, and sensing how this impacted my body.
I would continue to say this phrase until it faded out naturally and I was simply sitting with no thoughts in my mind, no emotions excepting peace, and hardly any body sensations in the present moment. When thoughts arise, then I pick the same mantra, I am love, or change it to I am one with Universal love, then to I am Universal love, then to I am one with God, then I am God. I have many more suggestions.
The idea of meditation is when you are present and clear, you are open to the Universal love in the present, open to your intuitive wisdom, and living fully now. My experience of living fully in the present moment is being in love, awe, bliss, and people coming up to me commenting how amazing my energy seemed, then asking what do I do? In other words, my presence naturally uplifted everyone around me without my saying nor doing anything other than enjoying my bliss. Was it worth the 30 years?
Yes, and guided meditation is a whole lot funner. My book, Embracing the Miraculous, Attaining Optimal Health on All Levels, has 40 guided meditations, my CD has the first 11 guided meditations from this book, my movie, Embracing the Miraculous, 6 Guided Meditations to Find God is also based on my book and has beautiful nature scenery externally mirroring your internal energy accompanied by wonderful angelic music. Because guided meditations are so powerful, and so much fun, my hope is that what took me ten days, even years, will take you an hour to experience the deep theta state, and you being God, unconditional love, infinite energy and light.
